Mandarin Chinese added to H-F High School curriculum

Homewood loves its baseball. It’s had Homewood Babe Ruth League play for kids since 1951.

For those who can’t get enough, District 153 is hoping to establish a baseball and softball program for fall 2015 to compete in the Illinois Elementary School Association’s (IESA) play for the south and southwest area. The school board Monday approved filing an application with IESA.

This will be a mixed team of boys and girls at the junior high level.

District 153 already offers students extracurricular track and volleyball. James Hart Junior High Principal Scott McAlister said students were surveyed and the results showed they wanted baseball and softball.

Play could begin the last week of July, earlier than the start of school, and maybe even before play ends for advancing Homewood Baseball teams.

Coaches will be selected during the spring semester.
