Police Reports: Jan. 1, 2015

The village of Homewood is seeking another another downtown property with the hope of selling it to a developer.

Homewood trustees will consider a measure Tuesday, Jan. 13, to purchase 18138 Dixie Highway, formerly Savoia T’Go Restaurant for $151,700. Money for the purchase would come from the fund balance in the general fund, according to Village Manager Jim Marino.

In a memo to trustees, Marino said ownership would give the village the ability to seek a business development that is suitable for Homewood’s downtown area.

Trustees approved another land bank measure Dec. 23 when they agreed to proceed with the purchase of Ryan Funeral Home at 18022 Dixie Highway. At the same meeting, the board of trustees hired a consultant to study the feasibility of developing a community science center there.

In other business, trustees will consider

  • a resolution honoring Craig Sline for 20 years service to Homewood Police Department;
  • purchasing a cargo van for $22,598;
  • purchasing a towable trash pump for $25,790;
  • a budget amendment of $66,000 pertaining to the 183rd Street resurfacing project;
  • appointing Marvin Austin to the Ethics Commission, Michael Matthys to the Appearance Commission, Irwin Friedman and Holly Campbell to the Cable Commission; Anthony Dauginas and Patrick McAneney to the Storm Water Resource Committee; and David Rebec and Robert Silverman to the Veterans Committee.

The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. in the board room of Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
