It came down to the wire, but the Martin Avenue open space and streetscape project contract crossed the finish line just before the expiration of its funding source. 

At a special meeting Tuesday, Dec. 30, Homewood trustees approved a bid waiver and awarded a $1.2 million contract for developing the Martin Avenue project to F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielson & Associates.

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
