Pop-Up shops are back

Flossmoor residents are banding together to help south suburban neighbors in need during the 2015 MLK Day of Service on Jan. 19.

The village’s Human Relations Commission is spearheading the day’s events, which will benefit three area social service organizations – the Jones Center in Chicago Heights, Respond Now, and South Suburban PADS.

The federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has been a National Day of Service since 1994. This is the first year that Flossmoor . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
