Final plan for Martin Avenue streetscape wins praise, but question arises about funding

Homewood-Flossmoor High School speech team.

The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Speech Team took third place in the Thornridge Tree Speech Tournament Dec. 6, according to a story in the Homewood-Flossmoor FYI.

It wasn't the first successful outing of the season. The team won the South West Suburban Conference Novice Conference Tournament on Nov. 25, according to Janine Stroemer, speech team head coach. 

"We have been Red Division Champions for 10 of the 11 years at the Novice Level," she said.

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
