James Hart School hosts annual Winter Choir Concert

John Brunke

John Brunke has been named public works director for the Village of Flossmoor.

Village Manager Bridget Wachtel said Friday that Brunke’s appointment becomes effective Monday. Brunke succeeds George Peluso, who was recently appointed public services director in Hinsdale. Peluso’s last day with the village was Friday.

Brunke, a licensed professional engineer, has been assistant public works director in Flossmoor for the past four years. Prior to that, he worked as a consulting engineer in the private sector. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago.

“John has already been a very strong member of our staff,” Wachtel said. “He has overseen day-to-day operations of the public works department and successfully managed several of our capital projects.”

As public works director, Brunke will manage the village’s infrastructure needs, including streets and grounds, engineering, sanitary and storm sewers, forestry and the water main project and water distribution.

Brunke will manage a staff of 11 maintenance workers, an assistant public works director, a secretary, and seasonal workers.

Wachtel said Flossmoor has begun the search for a new assistant public works director.
