Adam Lewandowski knows what it takes to win in football. He was a member of the 1994 state champion Homewood-Flossmoor High School football team, so Village President Richard Hofeld thought it would be fitting for Lewandowski to present the proclamation honoring the 2014 Vikings.
Coaches and members of the team attended the Homewood board of trustees meeting Tuesday, Dec. 9, to be honored for the team’s successful season. The Vikings made it to the Illinois High School Association Class 8A championship Saturday, Nov. 29, where they lost a close game to undefeated Stevenson, 31-25.
Players and coaches stood before the village trustees as Lewandowski read the resolution applauding their accomplishments. After reading the resolution, Lewandowski offered a few words of his own for the team.
“Your hard work is what got you to that spot,” Lewandowski said. “Dedication and sacrifice is everything in this sport.”
He noted that the dedication players showed during the season was good preparation for their futures.
“Football is such a great model for the rest of your life,” he said. “You did not win the championship this year, but for you seniors, the new challenge becomes finding the championship in you every day, to be a championship man every day of your life.
“Please remember also that you are ambassadors of this community, and those who are coming behind you, need you.”
