Homewood-Flossmoor Park District workers braved cold weather Monday, Dec. 1, to continue preparing Irwin Park for Friday’s Holiday Lights festival.

Greg Malak, Elias Barbosa and David Becker worked for several hours with temperatures in the 20s to finish stringing lights on the big evergreen tree near Ridge Road and Gottschalk Avenue.

They started about mid-week last week when the weather improved enough to be able to work in the elevated bucket needed to get the lights to the top of the tall tree.

Malak said the preparations could continue Tuesday as the crew adds decorative bows to the tree.
