Scenes from the H-F Orchestra Spain trip fundraising auction

District 153 looked within its administrative staff for the next principal of Homewood’s Millennium School naming Dave McAtee to the position as of July 1, 2015.

Millennium Principal Shirley Watkins will be retiring from the district at the end of the school year.

“We have such a great school,” McAtee said. “I’m excited to be taking on this role.”

McAtee started at District 153 15 years ago as a sixth grade teacher. He was in the classroom seven years before being named the dean of students at Millennium. He has held that position for the past eight years.

McAtee said he really doesn’t foresee any dramatic changes at Millennium, but hopes to develop greater collaboration and use of resources between Millennium and James Hart Junior High, two schools under one roof at 183rd and Aberdeen.

McAtee earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Governors State University, and a master’s degree-Type 75 administrator’s license from Lewis University.
