Homewood Public Library will be hosting storyteller Mitch Capel at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, according to a news release from the library.
Capel is a storyteller, recording artist, poet, actor and author. He has been bringing stories to life and delighting audiences throughout the United States with his warmth, wit and compelling storytelling style since 1985.
Capel calls his style of storytelling “sto’etry” (stories recited poetically), and has been described as a “word magician,” a “national treasure,” “unexpectedly powerful” and a “transformer of lives,” according to his website.
He has been featured at numerous festivals including twice at The National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
"I am pleased to invite you all to a special storytelling event for adults," said Amy Crump, library director. "The fantastic storytelling will last about an hour. You don't want to miss it!"
The event is part of the National Association of Black Storytellers 32nd annual festival and conference, which will be held Nov. 12 through 16 in Oak Lawn. NABS storytellers reach out to neighboring communities during the festival to help promote storytelling.
The festival is hosted by ASE The Chicago Association of Black Storytellers.
