The District 153 School Board on Monday honored Cathryne Czarnecki with its Award for Excellence for her outstanding work and dedication for students.

Czarnecki, a former math teacher, is now the Response to Intervention director at James Hart Junior High working to assist students who need extra assistance. She coordinates with teachers to develop programs to aid students so that they can improve their classroom work without being classified for special education needs.

Hart Principal Scott McAlister also applauded Czarnecki for her leadership in developing a data process of student records for teachers. She works with students on recycling projects and sponsors the Interact Club. Czarnecki’s exuberant personality is said to brighten the day for students and staff.

“A lot of kids who couldn’t make it, make it because of you,” Shelly Marks, president of the board, told Czarnecki.

Superintendent Dale Mitchell said it is a pleasure to have Czarnecki, a graduate of the school, return to work on staff.
