Little shops popping up in time for holiday shopping

Holiday shopping season officially begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, when every unused nook and cranny will temporarily be filled with businesses.

The Pop-Up Shops program started in the 2013 holiday shopping season. This year, 32 shops feature arts, crafts, food, clothing and home decor will be open in four downtown locations and one spot on Governors Highway from Oct. 16 through Dec. 20, according to a news release from the village.

“What we love about the Pop-Up Shops is the positive energy it brings to Homewood, the assortment of pieces, the quality of the items, but most of all the sense of community it brings out,” said Anna Devries, village public relations and marketing coordinator.

Pop-Up locations include 2023 Ridge Road, 2045 Ridge Road, 2049 Ridge Road, 18306 Govenors Highway, and 18065 Harwood Ave.

Pop-Up Shops do not replace Homewood’s vibrant and faithful brick-and-mortars, who offer new items year-round, village officials said. Pop-Up Shops are designed to create new interest and energy within the district and increased foot traffic in an effort to benefit existing businesses and drive local consumers to shop local.

All Pop-Ups have the same dates and hours; select Pop-Ups will be open Christmas week for special holiday promotions. Shops will be open Thursday and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pop-Up Shops are operated and managed independent of the Village of Homewood, so shoppers who have questions about merchandise or anything about shop operation should contact vendors directly. The managing vendor of each shop is listed at the top under each Pop-Up Shop address.
