Gallagher earns speech honors for Prairie State College

Flossmoor Police Chief Michael Pulec sent an update and an offer of reassurance to community members concerned about a recent home invasion and sexual assault.

“This type of crime is understandably upsetting, and I want to assure you that the police are doing everything we can to solve this crime,” Pulec said in an email notice.

He said Flossmoor police are collaborating with state and federal law enforcement agencies to seek the individual responsible for the attack, which occurred early Sunday, Aug. 31, in the 1200 block of Douglas Avenue.

Although the perpetrator has not been apprehended, Pulec said investigators do not believe the individual remains a threat to the community.

The attacker is described as African American male between 30 to 35 years old; 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall; medium build; wearing grey sweat pants and black shirt.

No vehicle was observed leaving the area.

Anyone with information or who may have been in the area during this time is asked to call the Flossmoor Police Department at (708) 957-4500.

He also offered some historical context for the situation, noting that the last time a crime like this was committed in Flossmoor was 1996. He said crime in general is trending down, and the most common type of crime is theft.

“I encourage residents to continue to be vigilant of their surroundings and neighborhoods and report any suspicious activity,” Pulec said. “It is always advisable to be better safe than sorry; call 911 when you see activity that is suspicious.”
