Flossmoor’s renovated Metra station is cause for celebration

There was a party atmosphere Friday as government and business leaders celebrated the $4 million renovation of Flossmoor’s Metra station. The rebuilt station, in full use for about a month, was dedicated in a ceremony that included a ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a brass plaque that will be placed on the station wall.

Fundraising efforts are under way for James Hart Junior High School teacher Ric Druse, whose Coal City home was destroyed by a tornado Monday.

Homewood trustees honor St. Joseph pastor

Homewood trustees honored St. Joseph Catholic Church pastor the Rev. Richard Kozak at the village board meeting Tuesday. Kozak is retiring as pastor at the end of June.

This Saturday, Hunt & Gather will be back — and bigger — at Homewood Farmers Market on Saturday, June 27, with furnishings, crafts and collectibles in their own section at the north end of the market at 2020 Chestnut Road.

Homewood trustee expresses reservations about prevailing wage resolution

Most of the Homewood Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday consisted of routine matters, with one exception. Trustee Jay Heiferman abstained from voting on a resolution required by the state to affirm the village's compliance with the prevailing wage law.

PSC awards diplomas to Homewood and Flossmoor residents

Students from Homewood and Flossmoor were among the graduates receiving degrees at the 56th annual commencement at Prairie State College.

Students received associate in arts, associate in science, associate in fine arts, associate in general studies or associate in applied science degrees, or a career program certificate during the May 16 ceremonies.

Music at Ravisloe: IPO Brass Quintet to perform July 1

The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Brass Quintet will perform at Ravisloe Country Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, sharing American pop favorites, Baroque pop favorites and patriotic music to set the tone for the 4th of July holiday.

Lights, camera, action – District 161 starts recording board sessions

All systems are go for video recordings of school board meetings by Flossmoor District 161. Monday’s committee of the whole meeting – a session at which the school board discusses items of interest, but takes no action – was recorded and will likely be posted on the District 161 website later this week.
