Drama Group stages ‘Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” one of Broadway’s best comedies, will be staged by The Drama Group this weekend and the first weekend in May at the group’s Milord Studio Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St. in Chicago Heights.

H-F’s Group Interpretation team presents 30-minute drama Thursday

A special presentation of “From Dreams to Drama: Remembering Lorraine” will be performed by the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Group Interpretation team at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Mall Auditorium.
 
Group interpretation is a competitive 30-minute drama performance. This play tells the story of Lorraine Hansberry and her efforts writing the play “A Raisin in the Sun.” 

James Hart students stage ‘Lion King’ musical

The story of future king Simba and his rise to power over the animal kingdom will be presented by students at James Hart School when they stage the “Lion King Jr.” musical at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1 at the school, 18820 Morgan Ave., Homewood.

 

H-F High School’s fall musical ‘Chicago’ set for Nov. 9 and 10

The razzle-dazzle musical “Chicago” will be performed by Homewood-Flossmoor High School theater and music students at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9, and 10 in the Mall Auditorium.
 
This high school edition of the Broadway production is recommended for ages 13 and up.
 

Drama Group’s new season kicks off with ‘Sister Act’ Oct. 12

As the song says, there’s “something for everyone” during 2018-2019 season of The Drama Group, a mainstay of the south suburban theater scene for 88 years.
 
That classic melody that opens “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” – one of the ensemble’s offerings this year – says it all. From side-splitting humor to life’s hardships to unforgettable songs, The Drama Group is presenting plays that cover a wide range of the human experience.
 

H-F theater students present ‘Akeelah & the Bee’ Sept. 27, 28, 29

Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s theater program will present “Akeelah & the Bee” at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27 and 28, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the school’s Mall Auditorium, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. 
 

H-F Finance Committee wants more time to study fine arts addition

District 233 Finance Committee members said they will continue to study the needs of the fine arts programs at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
 
Tim Wenckus, chairperson, and Beth Larocca, newly appointed committee member, said they want to see charts that spell out what’s on the wish list of fine arts faculty so that they can determine how additional spaces will work for those programs.
 

Summer Theatre at H-F High presents 'Big the Musical TYA' July 19 and 20

Students in grades 2 through 12 participating in summer theater at Homewood-Flossmoor High School will conclude the session with three performances of “Big the Musical,” the theater for young audiences version.
 
Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, in the Mall Auditorium in H-F’s South Building. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, children and senior citizens.
 

Drama Group presents the musical 'Fame'

The high-octane musical “Fame” will close out the 2017-18 season for the Drama Group.
 
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2, 3 and 4. Matinee shows at 2 p.m. are on Sunday, July 29, and Saturday, Aug. 4. All shows are at the Drama Group’s Milord Studio Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St. in Chicago Heights.
