Video gaming, property transactions on Homewood board agenda Tuesday

At their meeting Tuesday, Homewood trustees will consider two property transactions that will affect downtown development, and action that will reverse years of gaming policy.

Trustees will consider a change to municipal code to allow video gaming machines in bars and restaurants that have operated in the village for at least four years.

If approved, that measure would open up the gaming market in the village, a change that village officials have resisted for years.

H-F students collect small mountain of shoes for those in need

Share a Pair, a shoe drive spearheaded by three H-F High students, gathered more than 1,000 pairs of shoes during this year's MLK Day of Service, plus Juanchos Tacos opens at Ridge and Halsted and there's been some progress on addressing chronic flooding along Ridge Road in Homewood.

Maple Tree owner: 'We are the phoenix'

Maple Tree Inn opened its new location at 18849 Dixie Highway in Homewood to the public on Feb. 7 and had a successful opening weekend, serving more than 800 diners, according to co-owner Katie Wennberg. But the ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb. 12 still proved to be an emotional occasion, putting an official seal on the restaurant's rebirth following a devastating fire at its Blue Island home in August 2018.


Grape & Grain sold, begins transition to Culture

Grape & Grain is under new management, and the new owners say their vision will build upon the accomplishments of previous owner Bill Frank.

The sale of the business and building closed Friday, Dec. 6, with Urban Leegacy LLC taking over the reins of the popular drinking and entertainment establishment at 18031 Dixie Highway. The establishment will be renamed Culture.
