Residents question developer at continued zoning meeting

For three hours Wednesday, opponents of a distribution warehouse plan peppered representatives of the Arizona developer with questions looking for satisfactory answers on the redevelopment of the former Calumet Country Club.

Then, the Homewood Planning and Zoning Commission called it a night and set a third continuation date.

The meeting started Feb. 11 but was postponed at 10 p.m. per village code. It was stopped after 10 p.m. Wednesday and will resume at 1 p.m. on Feb. 25.

Hazel Crest opposes Calumet Country Club redevelopment plan

The village of Hazel Crest issued a statement Tuesday night strongly opposing the proposed redevelopment of the former Calumet Country Club into a trucking distribution center and Homewood's settlement agreement with developer Diversified Partners.

After a special meeting of the board of trustees, Hazel Crest Mayor Vernard Alsberry Jr. released a video version of the statement. 

Homewood Planning and Zoning Commission to consider request to rezone Calumet Country Club property

The Homewood Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday to consider rezoning the former Calumet Country Club property to enable industrial use on the land, which has been a golf course since 1917.

If approved, the rezoning request by W&E Ventures LLC would rezone the property at 2150 175th Street from PL-2, public land and open space, to M-1, limited manufacturing use.

Citizen group aims to stop development at Calumet Country Club site

A group of citizens has formed South Suburbs for Greenspace over Concrete to argue against the proposed development of a distribution warehouse at the former Calumet Country Club in Homewood. 

SSGOC operates as a campaign of Illinois Southland Against Fossil Fuel Energy, which opposed a natural-gas power plant in Glenwood. The developer backed out of that project in 2019. 

Lawsuit settlement would keep former country club property in Homewood

A settlement in the two-year dispute over the future of the former Calumet Country Club in Homewood is on the agenda for the  Homewood Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, Jan. 26. 

If approved, the agreement will settle a lawsuit filed by the new owner of the former Calumet Country Club, who sought to disconnect the property from the village.
