Look for colorful, whimsical dogs and cats to take up residence in downtown Flossmoor this summer. Dogs on Parade is the second iteration of Pets on Parade, which was hosted in 2017 by Homewood as a fundraiser for the South Suburban Humane Society. Also: Homewood's new website, baseball opening day festivities, Homewood Hall of Fame, the Ninjas perform well at state and a local Welshman helps light up Chicago.

Why was Edward Klein carrying a gun? It’s been a couple of months since a DuPage County judge ordered Klein — who last May shot Homewood resident Michael Case — to be committed to a secure facility in Wisconsin that specializes in treating seniors with dementia. Homewood is already overtaxed and is heading towards a definitive and recognized pattern of downward spiral. Property values in Homewood are still at a fraction of what they were before the real estate market crash of 2007. Values in Homewood and other south suburbs have not recovered, while many other areas in Chicagoland have not only regained losses, but have surpassed values of the early 2000s. A quick glance at the Cook County delinquent real estate tax list reveals the massive extent of the problem in our community.
