Prairie State will share information on surgical technology at Feb. 25 program

Prairie State College is offering a virtual open house Feb. 25 for its Surgical Technology Program, a one-year accredited program.

Participants can join an information session from noon to 1 p.m. or from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 via Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/xdo-wobp-tdi.

“Surgical technologists are crucial to the success in the operating room and play an integral part in surgical procedures by providing optimal assistance to surgeons as they care for patients,” said Heather Pevion, an assistant professor who serves as the program coordinator for the Surgical Technology Program at PSC.

Surgical Technology gives students the opportunity to earn an associate of applied science (AAS) degree. Pevion said the program has a rich curriculum that combines theoretical coursework and hands-on clinical experience, and trains and prepares students to begin a rewarding career after graduation.

“Students learn the fundamentals of surgical technology, including surgical procedures, medical terminology, proper assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments, safety procedures, and are taught by expert instructors,” the assistant professor explained.

Upon completing the program, graduates may sit for the Surgical Technologist national certification exam administered through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Surgical technology at PSC is a selective admissions program. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2021. Learn more at prairiestate.edu/surgicaltech.
