Homewood police investigate shooting death at local rehab center

A 77-year-old resident of South Surburban Rehabilitation Center died Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound, according to Homewood police.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the facility at 19000 S. Halsted St. shortly after 3 a.m. and learned that a resident had been wounded. The resident was transported to an area hospital but died shortly afterward.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.

Police said a person of interest in the case, another resident, was taken into custody. 

The investigation continues and police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at 708-206-3420.
