Flossmoor School District 161 this week announced the appointment of two new assistant principals at Parker Junior High School.

Tara Peacock and Michelle Wisniewski will join incoming principal Amabel Crawford as top administrators at Parker. Peacock and Wisniewski are both staff members who have worked in District 161 for more than five years.

Board of education members confirmed the appointments at their May 28 meeting.

“It was important for us to hire qualified and experienced professionals for these two positions,” said Superintendent Dana Smith. “Parker is a gem of a school and Tara and Michelle will be great additions to the administrative staff.”

Peacock has taught eighth-grade social sciences at Parker Junior High since 2003. Prior to that, she worked as a fifth-grade teacher at Flossmoor Hills Elementary from 2000 to 2002 and at Churchill Elementary School in Homewood District 153.

Peacock holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Governors State University, a master’s degree in Teaching from National Louis University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Bradley University.

Wisniewski is also a familiar face after working as a case manager in District 161 since 2014. Prior to joining Flossmoor School District 161, Wisniewski worked as a case manager with the Speed Cooperative and as a guidance counselor in Bloom High School District 206.

Wisniewski holds master’s degrees in Educational Administration and School Counseling and Guidance from Lewis University, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of St. Francis.

Crawford said the knowledge and experience the new assistant principals bring to the administrative team at Parker Junior High will be invaluable as the 2019-2020 school year begins.

“Not only are they excellent candidates to fill these vacant positions, but their knowledge of the district and, specifically, of Parker Junior High are incredible assets to have as we embark on our first year together,” said Crawford.

Crawford, District 161’s director of learning and instruction, was appointed Parker’s principal following Fred Hunter’s resignation on March 18.  She takes over the position July 1.
