‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ at GSU Jan. 25 and 26

Southland Area Theatre Ensemble presents the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” at Governors State University on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25 and 26. The Jan. 27 show is sold out.

Shows are at 8 p.m. The performance is at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway in University Park.

This production first hit the stage 40 years ago and is still pleasing audiences for its portrayal of the last seven days of the life of Jesus Christ as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. He perceives the followers of Jesus as a threat to the Roman Empire and betrays Jesus with a kiss in the Garden of Gethsemane for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus is arrested and condemned to death on the cross.
