HF Robotics hosting tourney Saturday at Parker Junior High

HF Robotics is hosting a robotics tournament on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Parker Junior High in Flossmoor.

The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will continue until about 6 p.m. The award presentation is expected to begin between 4 and 4:30 p.m.

Organizers expect 28 teams to compete this year, double the number that participated in the tournament the team hosted at Marian Catholic High School in 2018, according to Michelle Nelson, one of the adult advisors to the group.

More than 300 spectators will watch about 300 student put their robots through their paces in a game-type of format in which the teams are given a set of tasks and are judged on their robot’s performance of those tasks.

Top finishers will advance to the state tournament.

The event sanctioned by For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), an international youth organization.

The event is supported by sponsors, including the Homewood Science Center, Mi-Jack, Schneider Electric, and is operated by numerous volunteers.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
