Candlelight vigil Oct. 1 marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month

South Suburban Family Shelter will hold a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, to mark the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
 
The gathering will be at the Irwin Park Bandshell, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. 
 
The event will include music, survivor testimonies and an exhibit of T-shirts with art created by survivors of domestic abuse.
 
South Suburban Family Shelter provides services for victims of domestic violence through its Spanish/English bilingual hotline and emergency shelter, counseling services, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, prevention programs and other support services to victims of domestic violence and their families.
