LGBTQ group hosts Sept. 19 session on healthy lifestyles

Lighthouse LGBTQ will be hosting a panel discussion “Mind-Body-Soul: Living Your Best LGBTQ Life,” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Community House in Flossmoor, 847 Hutchison Road. All members of the LGBTQ community, friends and allies are welcome. The program will follow the regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
 
Panelists for the evening will address healthy lifestyle practices and will include:
  •  Liz Smith, founder of Serendipity Yoga and Wellness , a registered yoga teacher, a Yoga Alliance certified education provider, certified Rainbow Kids yoga teacher and Reiki master.
  • Holly Houston, director of the Anxiety and Stress Center, established in 1990. She has expertise in a variety of areas, including anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, abuse/trauma and issues of sexuality and gender identity.
  • B. Deonn Strathman, director of community engagement and adolescent health initiatives at Planned Parenthood in Flossmoor. She has worked at Planned Parenthood for more than 10 years, focusing mainly on youth education, LGBTQ health and outreach to marginalized communities.
  • Rachel Lewis and Susan Barzo, founders of The Sunshine Kitchen. They have a passion for healthy cooking with a focus on creating delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Lighthouse LGBTQ was founded three years ago and is supported by Flossmoor Community Church. Monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Community House. 

The group provides free support for teens and young adults who are processing their sexual and gender identity and the parents and guardians who love them. Lighthouse is a safe, accepting place where individuals are encouraged to come as they are, wherever they are in their journeys.
