Hiring skills workshop and hiring event set

More than 50 employers with active job openings will be in at the sixth annual hiring event for residents of the 2nd Congressional District on Oct. 19.  
 
The event is presented by Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., who represents Homewood and Flossmoor in Congress.
 
The hiring fair will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lan-Oak Park District, 2550 178th St. in Lansing. 
 
To help residents prepare for the fair, a free job readiness workshop will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 in the community room of the Calumet City Public Library, 660 Manistee Ave. Instructors from the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership will teach job-seekers interview etiquette and skills and how to prepare a resume.
 
Companies and agencies participating in this year’s hiring event include FedEx Ground, UPS, ComEd, Metra Rail, Comcast, the U.S. Postal Service, Advocate Health Care, Home Depot and Uber.
