H-F musicians present at Illinois music conference

Homewood-Flossmoor High School was represented by members of the Viking Orchestra and by the Viking Jazz Ensemble at the Illinois Music Education Conference and All-State Festival Jan. 24 through 27 in Peoria.
 
Viking Orchestra members violinist Allie Mangel, a senior, and violist Perry Hoag, a junior, were selected from the more than 12,000 student musicians who auditioned for a spot at the All-State Festival. The rigorous audition process of performing etudes, musical excerpts, scales, triads, sight-reading, video and music submissions.
 
The Viking Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of teacher Sarah Whitlock, represented H-F with a special Friday performance at the conference. The group was one of only four jazz bands invited to perform at the conference.

The ensemble members are Kirkland Benson, Ella Bohlman, Ethan Bosch, Xavier Branch, Sam Calhoon, Kendall Carter, Jalen Duffin, Philip Hallam, Makiya Jenkins, Eli Kebschull, Nehemiah Key, William Lawton, Ricardo Martinez, Kensuke Nakamura, John Pohrte, Sofi Riedel, Sean Roby, Tyrone Simpson and Taylor Tomlin.
