Foundation 153 is making changes to the annual Fund Run for Homewood schools moving it up to Aug. 25, and expanding it to a multilayered event that will include games, a parents night out event and a teachers dunk tank.

Fund Run, an annual event, has been held in September. The fundraiser supports activities at Willow, Churchill and Hart Schools in District 153. Supporters moved the event to the Saturday after school opens Aug. 22, as a welcome back party.

The main events at the District 153 administration center, 18205 Aberdeen Ave., start with the 5K run at 9 a.m. with the Kids Dash at 10 a.m. Registration fees will include admission to the Family Bash & Teacher Splash fun fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wiley’s Grill will offer food, and kids of all ages will enjoy fun in the H-F Sports Complex. Carnival-style games will be segmented by ages: Willow at Wild, Wild Wildcat Territory; Churchill at the Bulldog Bonanza Territory and Hart students in Hart Land.

Nearly two dozen teachers have volunteered to participate in the dunk tank. Taking a chance will be $2 per ball, or $5 for three balls.

The evening event for adults will be from 7 to 10 p.m. at Grape & Grain, 18031 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Entertainment will be by Thing Three. There is no cover charge. Foundation 153 will have a silent auction event as part of the evening program. Bidding will be done via cell phone throughout the event.

Dozens of prizes are available and can be viewed at the Foundation153.org website starting Monday, Aug. 20. Donations include: two youth bicycles donated by Goodspeed Cycle. sporting tickets, martini making classes at Copper Still, a kids painting party at Art4Soul, tickets to the Chicago Children’s Museum and the Chicago architecture tour.

Foundation 153 has designated Fund Run profits for technology needs in the district.

Fees are $25 for children under age 12; $15 for the Kids’ Dash; $30 for adults in the 5K; $95 for a family including two adults and unlimited number of children under age 17.  All participants will get a wrist bracelet for admission to the afternoon fun fair. Adult runners will receive a ticket for a domestic or selected craft beer at the Grape & Grain event.

Registration is ongoing and can be made at Foundation153.org. Volunteers also will be taking registrations and accepting donations from noon to 9 p.m. at the Homewood Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 18, in downtown Homewood.

Volunteers working on the event are Megan Sorensen, president; Amanda Gaus, vice president; Nick Fonner, treasurer; Josh Berg, Percy Harris, Melissa Jacobsen, Mike Dickover, Gia Riney, Dana Zigmund with assistance from Shelley Peck, the foundation’s executive director.
