Two informational seminars set for Bloom Township property tax assessments

The Cook County Assessor’s Office will host two assessment appeal seminars for Bloom Township residents on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and Wednesday, Oct.4.

Bloom Township was one of 17 south and southwest areas where property was reassessed this year.

Residents can have their questions about the reassessment process answered from 6 to 8 p.m. on both Sept. 26 and Oct. 4 at the Bloom Township Center, 425 Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

Taxpayers are encouraged to bring their assessment notices. The assessor’s staff will distribute assessment information.

Residents wanting to appeal their latest assessments can do so at the workshop with assistance from staff. Residents have until Oct. 16 to appeal their assessments. Homeowners do not need an attorney to file an appeal. There is no fee.

These latest property assessments will appear on tax bills due for payment in the 2018 calendar year. The time to file appeals on these proposed assessments is now, however, when the reassessment notices are received, according to Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios.
