Tuesday Metra meeting focuses on Electric Line schedule changes

Schedule changes to the Metra Electric Line train service, including some reductions, will be addressed at a Tuesday information meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road.

The Chronicle gave incorrect information on several items in a story posted Sunday that we regret. Corrected information is as follows:

Metra is not making extensive cuts to the Saturday service, as the Chronicle reported.

Saturday trains will be running close to the current schedule, said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis. Metra proposes to cut Saturday service from 23 trains to 20 trains, eliminating several early morning trains but the new schedule is spacing trains to better accommodate riders, he said.

Times will change for Saturday trains. The earliest Saturday morning train from Homewood to Chicago will leave at 5:14 a.m. Trains will continue every hour leaving at 14-minutes past the hour. The last train from Homewood to Chicago will board just after midnight.

Outbound Saturday trains from Chicago to Homewood will start arriving at 6:22 a.m. Most trains will arrive at 22-minutes past the hour throughout the day. The last train will arrive in Homewood from Chicago at 1:47 a.m.

Metra also is renumbering trains. The Saturday trains will be identified by an 800 prefix, Gillis said.

The Chronicle also identified several trains as being eliminated from the weekend schedule. However, the trains are weekday trains.

Under the new schedule, there will still be 13 morning rush hour trains from Homewood to Chicago. A 6:28 a.m. train is being added and a 6:50 a.m. train is being eliminated.

Metra advises riders to check the proposed schedule at https://metrarail.com/about-metra/newsroom/metra-proposes-revised-metra-electric-schedule Changes are expected to be in place in late summer.

The majority of the service cuts Metra is proposing will impact the South Chicago and Blue Island lines.
