This is the second Diamond Award the association has presented to Stroemer. She has been head coach at H-F for 12 years.

According to the association: “Diamond coach awards reflect excellence and longevity in the activity.” Stroemer’s winning this second award was announced in July at the association’s national tournament in Alabama.

Each time H-F students compete and place at events, they earn points. For every 10 points a student earns, one point is credited to Stroemer’s Diamond Award. She needed to earn 1,500 points for the honor and “when I have a powerhouse team, that’s not hard.”

She had several students who were in speech and debate for four years and each earned more than 1,000 points.  Competition categories include dramatic interpretation, informative speaking, extemporaneous speaking, duo interpretation and humorous interpretation. Students also earn points for community presentations that involve public speaking.

H-F has consistently won top rankings. The 2017 Group Interpretation ensemble and crew – 19 seniors – received a superior rating in All-Conference competition at the SWSC Contest Play & Group Interpretation Festival.

Stroemer said she will be holding auditions in early September to select new speech team members.
