PSC Music Department presents Spring Concert Series in May

Three concerts will be presented at Prairie State College as a Spring Concert Series.
 
The performances will be by ensembles comprised of PSC students, community members and advanced high school musicians.The 7:30 p.m. presentations will be given in the Conference Center on the college’s main campus, 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights. The programs are free and open to the public. 
 
On Monday, May 1, Toni Bell will direct the Jazz Choir and select soloists performing songs from the Great American Songbook, in a casual cabaret setting. 
 
The Monday, May 8, performance will feature the Wind Ensemble, directed by Philip Crews. Pieces programmed include “Celebration and Interlude” by local composer Darrell Dalton; settings of familiar tunes “Scarborough Fair,” arranged by Andrew Boysen, Jr.; and “We Shall Overcome,” arranged by Bill Locklear. 
 
On Tuesday, May 9, the Jazz Pioneers Combo will perform jazz standards and songs in a club atmosphere, under the direction of Eugene Vinyard.
 
“This is a great opportunity for the community to enjoy listening to some of the area’s talented musicians,” said Professor Valerie Nicholson, coordinator of the Music Department.
