Possible body found in remains of burned vehicle

Homewood public safety personnel found what appeared to be a human body after extinguishing a car fire on Monday afternoon.

Fire and police units responded at 2:14 p.m. to a report of a car on fire in Patriots Park, 1300 187th St.

When they arrived, crews found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames, according to Homewood police.

“Once the fire was extinguished, public safety personnel on scene discovered what appeared to be a human body in the vehicle,” said Deputy Police Chief Denise McGrath in a news release.

The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit is conducting an investigation with assistance from the Homewood Fire Department, Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
