Two arrested after high-speed chase down Governors Highway

Patricia Fears, principal of Heather Hill School. She has been a teacher for 21 years and an administrator for 12 years.

My first year of teaching was at Blakeney Elementary School in Waynesboro, Ga. My tenure in Illinois began at Bryant Elementary School in Harvey and continued at Sauk Elementary School in Richton Park. I began my administrative career at Matteson Elementary School and continued at Heather Hill Elementary School.

As a teacher, I taught first, fourth, fifth, sixth grades and special education classes.

There are so many great memories I will treasure as a teacher and an administrator. They all center on the great relationships that last throughout my tenure. Some of the best include letters from students I taught in first and fifth grades. One student in particular still remembers my birthday every year and sends a special card to celebrate with me. I taught her when she was in fifth grade and she has since finished school and has a career of her own.

I will miss collaborating with other colleagues who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of our children. And, I will dearly miss my students who all mean so very much to me. Seeing them learn and grow is indeed a blessing, which I will always cherish.

After leaving District 161, my plans are to reconnect with my family and friends on the East Coast, sell our home here in Illinois, relocate closer to my family and continue my career on the East Coast. So, as a friend recently stated, “This is just a practice retirement.” I look forward to seeing all of my students continue their journey of becoming lifelong learners, which is a personal goal of my own.
