In a Facebook post Thursday night, Homewood officials announced that the popular Noon Year’s Eve celebration on Dec. 31 would be limited to 300 people to comply with fire codes.

In the past, families have packed the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District auditorium to watch entertainment prior to the balloon drop at noon to celebrate the almost-arrival of the new year.

“We understand this is a popular event with many neighboring communities; however, since space is limited we are offering tickets to Homewood residents for this event. We apologize for any confusion this change may cause,” officials said in the post.

The free tickets can be picked up at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road, during business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Proof of residency is needed, either a driver’s license or piece of mail.
